NABO Council have co-opted long standing member Dr Mike Rodd to join its Council at a recent meeting. Best know for his work on the Kennet and Avon Trust Mike Rodd, originally from Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), has been both the General Manager and the Trustee Chairman (until 2012) of The Trust.
During this time he established the first trial BW/CRT K&A Waterways Partnership. A Professional Electrical Engineer with a doctorate from the University of Wales, he had previously been a professor at Swansea University. Mike, who lives with his vicar-wife, Sue, in Aldbourne, Marlborough, is an active boat owner on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. He also skippers public trip boats for the K&A Canal Trust, being an MCA-qualified Boatmaster.
Mike said “As a boat owner, which thereby means a heavy financial investment I wish to protect, I am very concerned that the rights, conditions and protection of facilities for boating are not forgotten in the new brave world of the C&RT which aims to encompass all users. NABO seems to be the only truly independent voice to represent boat owners on these issues and I hope I can use my experience and the network of contacts I have grown to good use.”
David Fletcher, Chairman of NABO said “ We are delighted that Mike Rodd has joined us on Council – his long experience on the Inland Waterways and his skill and understanding will be a great asset for us.
