Advice and representation

Members enjoy short channels of communication and easy access to NABO's Council members and officers, without intervening layers of heirarchy. NABO has access to a wide range of experience and expertise in all aspects of boat ownership.

NABO News

Members receive six or more issues a year of NABO News - which often publishes "hot" waterway news before the national magazines.

The newsletter keeps them up to date with what Council is doing on their behalf, as well as publishing informative, and at times amusing, articles of more general interest to boat owners written by boat owners. It also carries a limited number of waterway related adverts and full contact details for Council members.

Members get their chance to air their views in the readers' letters columns, which, along with everything else in the magazine, also reach those in the corridors of power.

Email Bulletins

NABO keeps a confidential opt-in/out list of email addresses for members who wish to be kept in touch with issues, surveys and breaking news, using the immediacy of electronic communication

Discounts

NABO members can now enjoy a discount on River Canal Rescue membership:-

20% - on joining.
15% - on Gold renewal.
10% - on Silver renewal
5% - on Bronze renewal

NABO has also arranged discounts on boat insurance for members, and is negotiating discounts on a variety of goods and services, including carbon dioxide and calor gas detectors.

Guidance Papers

We have prepared guidance papers on topics of interest to boaters, including boat insurance, VHF radio requirements, ship registration, and fire safety. Others, including one on facilities for the disabled, are being prepared. Some of these are available to members on this site, two are also available to prospective members as a 'taster' -
